ALH. ADAMU LAWAN (Zaufanjinba)

A seasoned Banker and a political administrator. Alhaji Adamu Lawan has a long career in the Banking industry and now serves as Borno State's Commissioner for works. With the ardent desire to serve society, Adamu Lawan has delved into politics. You can interact with him on this website and follow his modest contribution to good governance in Borno. Alhaji Adamu Lawan was born in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State on 3 June 1970. he attended Maimusari Primary School between 1979 and 1982, the Government Secondary School New Marte from 1982 to 1988 where he wrote his SSCE and proceeded to University of Maiduguri in 1988. He Graduated with First Class in Agricultural Economics in 1995.

Adamu Lawan started his career as a lecturer and Departmental Examinations Offiver at Kashim Ibrahim College of Education Maiduguri between December 1996 and October 1999. He then Proceeded to All States Trust Bank to start his banking career as Credit and Marketing Officer from October 1999 to August 2001.

He transferred to the prestigious Zenith Bank in the Same month, taking the same position (Credit and Marketing Officer) which he held till he was a Branch Manager of Damaturu branch of the bank in April 2005, a position he held until June 2009 when he was promoted to the rank of Head Public Sector Group for Borno and Yobe States. He was promoted to Branch Head of the Maiduguri Branch of Zenith Bank in October 2010 and he held that position until he was appointed by the Kashim Shettima Government to serve as Honourable Commissioner for Works and Transport and he still serves as such.

My Political Philosophy

My formost view of politics is that a leader comes to serve society and not to be served by society. I see leadership as a responsibility and not a mean for self agrandisement ad this guides my political direction

Responsibility

That Government shall be responsible for the welfare of the people and the leader at the top shall accept responsibility for how the gvernment fared.

All-Inlusiveness

The diversity of Borno shall be reflected inall aspects of governance

Prudence

Resources shall be regarded as scarce and used accordingly to achieve the optimum resuls

Consultation

People affected by government policies shall be consulted in the process of polcy-making and implemetation.

SOME ACHIEVEMENTS

Some of my personal achievements as an individual and as a government official;

Rigorous Supervision and Stewardship of Projects in the Ministry of Works

Educational Sponsorships

Alhaji Adamu Lawan gives scholarships to students to study withon and outside the country. Some of the persons he sponsored are now Medical doctors, pilots and engineers working in numerous places.

Hosting of IDPs

With the destructon of livelihoods wrought by the raging insurgency, whole communities have been displaced and Adamu Lawan currently maintains a whole IDP camp - catering for altheir needs; food, shelter, healthcare and education for the children

Consultation

People affected by government policies shall be consulted in the process of polcy-making and implemetation.

A New Style of political leadership

I have a vision for a new form of leadership for Borno State whereby the general public will be actively involved in policy-making and implementation

My Mission:

1. To serve Borno to the best of my capabilities with the awareness that leadership is a responsibility one will untimately account for

2. To consider peoples' opinions, tapped through widespread consultation, in the formulation and implementation of government policies.

3. To restructure and redirect the public service in order to achieve best results in our education and health secors particularly - through staff development and motivation.

Current Activity at the Ministry of Works

The Borno State Government under Kashim Shettima has provided a lot of infrastructure through the Ministry for Works. Right now, we are undertaking the construction of drainage networks across the State to curb the constant problem of flooding during the raining seasons
